Twenty-five-year-old BTech graduate Haneef Waseem, a native of Mancherial town in Adilabad district, died fighting for Islamic State(IS) terror outfit in Syria on March 15, 2015.

He was like any young man with lots of hopes for a bright future. He was engaged to a girl from Hyderabad last September. Haneef left for Syria in February 2015.

According to Haneef’s family, the boy called up his father Mohammad Aleem from Dubai before leaving for Syria, to inform him that he would prefer to cancel his engagement as he was joining the IS.

“He also called up his fiancée and told her not to wait for him as he is has no time for marriage and a normal life. He told her that his life was dedicated for jihad,” Aleem told reporters. Aleem kept the news of death of his son and the cancellation of engagement to himself for sometime fearing ostracisation. Moreover — Aleem was not sure exactly how and where his son died.

Haneef’s father ran a hotel besides a real estate business in Mancherial.
The family later shifted to Shastripuram in Rajendra Nagar area here. Haneef’s two elder brothers are helping their father. According to police, Haneef completed his BTech from Shadhan College of Engineering and Technology. He then went to the UK to do MS in November of 2014.

After completing MS, he moved to Dubai for employment. However, the police believe that he actually disappeared. Officials say that his radicalisation took place in Dubai. While working in Dubai he returned home last September and visited his family here for the last time.

Haneef is not the only person who was radicalised by IS recruiters.

Salman Mohiuddin, 32, a resident of Bazaar Ghat and a former Google employee Munawad Salman, 26, were detained by the police here when they were on their way to join IS in Syria.

A Mumbai-based software engineer Anees Ansari and electrical engineer Mehdi Masroor Biswas from from Kolkata were also caught by the police on their way to Syria via different routes.
