You must be able to laugh at yourself first to be able to make others laugh believes Bollywood actor Suresh Menon. Known for his roles in films like ‘Grand Masti’, ‘Phir Hera Pheri’, ‘Partner’, ‘Hello’, ‘Ra.One’ and ‘Mastizaade’, he has now launched his own venture — One Entertainment, to promote young talent. In an interview with Nina C George, Suresh talks about his career in Bollywood and his future endeavours.

When did you realise that you wanted to be an actor?

I have always wanted to be an actor. As a child, I had the wildest of the imaginations and my biggest dream was to take a rocket and go to the moon and return.
I also used to also have random conversations with the moon. I thought acting was the best way to give form and shape to that imagination.

You have acted more as a comedian. How tough is it to make people laugh?
Over the years, I’ve realised, that if you can laugh at yourself then you can make anybody laugh.

How do you overcome fear?
I have had too many tragedies in my life and these incidents has helped me overcome my fears. Today, I don’t have any fears.

Do you ever get bored?
Boredom sets in when I am caught in the middle of people who are gossiping and when I am stuck in inane conversations. So, to overcome boredom, I start imitating the people I am with and convert the negative energy around me into a positive streak.

Are you under pressure to prove yourself?
I am never under any sort of pressure because I don’t believe in competition. I have always enjoyed my work, whether in the movies or in television, and I never let ego get in the way.

Do you think people have forgotten to laugh?
Today, people’s emotions are controlled by social media. You laugh, cry and perhaps get angry as a result of what you have read on social networking sites. They rule your emotion. A bunch of my friends and I make sure we meet once a week, exchange ideas and sometimes, laugh over nothing.

Will your onscreen presence take a backseat because of your focus on ‘One Entertainment’?
I am always involved with cinema and entertainment in one form or the other.
Devoting time to ‘One Entertainment’ is a conscious move. Our studio, including
facilities such as lights, sound and cameras, will be given out to youngsters
who want to come and explore their talent. We hope use this platform to spot new talent.
