Gadkari urges CE biz to switch to ethanol

In a bid to keep India clean and pollution free, Union Minister of Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday urged construction equipment (CE) industry to use ethanol and biodiesel, instead of diesel.

Speaking at the inauguration of the eight edition of Excon, the biggest construction equipment exposition in Asia which began here on Wednesday, Gadkari said, “Construction equipment use diesel...try to use ethanol or biodiesel fuel where it can reduce pollution around 90-95 per cent.”

On shortage of skilled manpower, Gadkari said, “We are 22 per cent shortage of drivers. The training of drivers is the need of the hour. Creating a skilled manpower is a challenge in India. My agenda is to create 50 lakh jobs.”

The government had drawn up a major plan to improve the inland waterways system in the county to bring down the transport cost of goods as well as maximise the use its rivers for national development, Gadkari said. He added that the government had decided to develop inland waterways in as many as 111 rivers in the country.
