Site fraud: 115 more victims approach cops

At least 115 people approached Bagalur police to register complaint against K V Venkatesh, who had cheated several people by promising residential sites.

Venkatesh was arrested based on a complaint filed by one of the victims. The accused had cheated the  members of the Karnataka Legislative Council Secretariat Employees’ Welfare Forum and the Housing Forum and other members of public, of crores of rupees in 2005.

He promised them of forming a layout and distributing sites to them, which never materialised.

On Sunday, the victims held a meeting with the police, when another few people who were cheated by Venkatesh, approached the police. They showed the fake land documents given by Venkatesh. They complained that he had taken money from them and never handed over them the sites.

According to police, Venkatesh used to charge anywhere between Rs 8 lakh and 11 lakh for a 30X40 sq ft site and used to carry out all his financial transactions through demand drafts and cheques. It is learnt that he had cheated several people in Doddaballapur too. However no victims from Doddaballapur have registered a complaint.

A senior police officer said, “Venkatesh has at least 27 bank accounts and we have asked the banks to provide the details of all his accounts. All these accounts will be scrutinised and also, we are investigating from where he used to get the fake land documents.”
