Dedicated counters for cancellation of railway tickets

Dedicated counters for cancellation of railway tickets
Railways has decided to provide a dedicated counter for cancellation of tickets at every station.

Where counters for current booking are available, they will also be functioning as cancellation counters and at other places, one of the counters for unreserved ticket booking will be converted into such counters. The facility has been provided because new refund rules make it mandatory that cancellation of tickets be made before the time of scheduled departure of the train.

The facility, which has become operational from Tuesday, could be availed for tickets purchased at counters and these counters will be available beyond the working hours, said the Rail Ministry.

This facility shall be available on the tickets for those trains whose scheduled departure time is within 24 hours from the time of cancellation of tickets. These counters will not be functioning during working hours or during such hours when current booking counters are opened.

However, if on one PNR all the passengers have confirmed accommodation and some out of them do not want to travel and cancel the journey, new tickets shall be issued in such cases.

If the passenger has already provided mobile number, SMS on the registered mobile number shall be sent for refunded amount.

Passenger shall also be asked to provide the mobile number in the cancellation form during the time of cancellation to send SMS for refunded amount. Adequate number of cancellation forms shall be made available at such counters, said the ministry.
