<p>This week Bengaluru will be the epicentre of a unique awareness campaign on endangered hornbills, the State bird of Nagaland.<br /><br /></p>.<p>The City will host a two-day event on hornbill conservation awareness on December 5 and 6 at Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath. <br /><br />Christened as ‘Art for Hornbills,’ the event is aimed at raising funds for the Hornbill Nest Adoption Programme in Arunachal Pradesh. Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and part of Assam are natural hornbill habitats. <br /><br />At the event, Aparajita Datta, a noted scientist from Nature Conservation Foundation (NCF) will talk about hornbill conservation in Arunachal Pradesh, while famous wildlife cartoonist Rohan Chakravarthy, through his cartoons, would try to raise awareness on why hornbill conservation in Northeast India in important and how people across the country should help this effort. <br /><br />Apart form this, other artists who have been spreading awareness about hornbill conservation though their varied art form would showcase their works in the two-day event. A short documentary film will be screened to create on hornbill and the need for its conservation. <br /><br />In all, artworks in varied forms – from paintings to photos, from documentary to dramas, will be used to help the cause. Eighty per cent of the funds raised from the event would be donated to the Hornbill Nest Adoption Programme in Arunachal Pradesh. <br /><br />The event comes at a time when the world-famous Hornbill festival is being held at Nagaland’s capital, Kohima.<br /><br />The NCF had started the Hornbill Nest Adoption Programme in Arunachal Pradesh in 2011 to protect hornbills and trees where they nest. <br /></p>
