The ‘Chappara Muhurtham’ was performed for the pre-Paryaya celebrations of the Pejawar Mutt with pomp and grandeur amidst the chanting of hymns and rituals on the premises of Rajangana.

The ritual was performed in the absence of Pejawar seer Sri Vishweshatheertha Swami who is on pre-Paryaya tour, during which he visits various pilgrim centres in the country.

The rituals were performed at the Sri Chandramoulishwara and the Lord Anantheshwar temples – the two oldest temples in town – before the procession entered Sri Krishna Mutt, where prayers were offered to the presiding deity, Lord Krishna, and Lord Mukhyaprana. Following this, the ‘Chappara Muhurtham’ was performed at two venues in the vicinity of the Rajangana.

The Pejawar Mutt’s Deewan M Raghuram said the prayers were offered by the priest Chitrapur Gopalkrishna Acharya on the occasion. The rituals were held at two places and the poles were erected symbolically on the occasion. The rituals were held in front of the Geethamandir and behind Rajangana in the parking area, as the Durbar of the Pejawar seer will be held there for the first time.

The Chappara is put up in the areas in front of Geethamandir as the area would be used to serve food to the devotees on the occasion of Paryaya. The ritual is being followed since the inception of the biennial Paryaya tradition. The area near Geethamandir comprised of banana plantation. The plantation was chopped and the Chappara was built, he added.

Prior to the erecting of the poles, the priest performed the ‘Kalasa Pooja’ and ‘Swasthika Pooja’. The public too offered prayers for the smooth conduct of Paryaya.

Raghuram said that the third ‘Chappara Muhurtham’ would be held in the days to come which would be called ‘Hasiruvani Muhurtham’. The third ‘Chappara Muhurtham’ is held to mark the fifth Paryaya celebration of the Pejawar Mutt. The Chappara would be completed on January 1.

Earlier, the Durbar was held at Badagu Malige and was shifted first to Vasanth Mahal and finally to Rajangana. Owing to the expectation of a large number of devotees gathering for the 5th Paryaya of Pejawar seer, however, the Durbar venue has been shifted to the parking lot. It would be a grand affair, the Deewan added.

Urban Development Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake and Rajya Sabha MP Oscar Fernandes were present on the occasion.
