Indira Jaising not allowed to speak at MP workshop

Senior lawyer and former additional solicitor general Indira Jaising was not allowed to speak in a workshop on gender sensitisation at the National Law Institute University (NLIU) here on Tuesday.

“The Madhya Pradesh government had cleared my name and I was one of the key speakers to address in the two-day workshop. But then I was told not to express my views in the workshop. This is a retaliatory act by the MP government since I had appealed to the apex court to monitor the CBI probe into the Vyapam scam,” Indira told Deccan Herald.

According to sources, Indira reached Bhopal on Monday night to attend the conference organised by the Lawyers Collective jointly with UN Women and the state government.

However, minutes before reaching the venue on Tuesday morning, she received a message saying she was not permitted to address the workshop. When she asked about the authorities to grant her the permission, she was told that the permission would come from one of the key speakers—the minister of women and child development—who was busy attending the weekly Cabinet meeting.
