KOA awards organisers leave media in lurch

Last Updated 16 December 2015, 16:13 IST

The indifferent attitude on the part of Karnataka Olympic Association (KOA), the organisers of the KOA Awards’ Ceremony, left mediapersons in the lurch as they were barred from entering the Raj Bhavan, the venue of the event, despite possessing invitation cards.

The security personnel at the gates of Raj Bhavan had been given strict instructions from the Aide-De-Camp (ADC) of the governor that journalists not be allowed to enter the premises.

Close to 30 members from the print and the electronic media were forced to wait outside Raj Bhavan for close to an hour before departing the venue as none of the KOA officials came to their aid.

Several attempts to contact KOA president, K Govindaraj, over his cell failed to materialise as he didn’t attend any of those calls.

At the press conference held on December 14, invites were handed out that clearly specified that the individual in possession of the invite would be permitted to attend the event.

But on Wednesday, the press persons were left high and dry with no proper communiction from the concerned authorities on the situation.

It was not just a matter of inconvenience to the men from the media. It was also about denying the winners of the awards their share of limelight.
