Central division police recovered stolen valuables worth Rs 5.42 cr this year

The Central Division police said they recovered valuables worth Rs 5.42 crore by solving 295 cases and arresting 265 people so far in the current year.

Around 7.147 kg of gold worth Rs 2.4 crore; 47.74 kg of silver worth Rs 19.48 lakh; Rs 48.15 lakh in cash; diamond worth Rs 24.50 lakh; 22 four-wheelers, 132 two-wheelers and other valuables were recovered, they said. Some suspects are still at large and some valuables yet to be recovered.

Police Commissioner N S Megharikh, who handed over the valuables to their owners, said, “Shops, offices, schools and colleges should instal CCTV cameras on their premises. If possible, even houses should have them.”He said the arrest of members of Irani and Bawaria gangs had led to a decrease in chain-snatchings.
