Railway Mazdoor Union spl general meeting

The National Railway Mazdoor Union is organising a special general council meeting at Udupi Railway Station to discuss the issues related to the ‘illogical’ Seventh Pay Commission recommendations, their implementation and also the new pension order on December 19.

Speaking to the media persons National Railway Mazdoor Union president Krishna Kumar L Shet said about 3,500 delegates are expected to take part in the conference from across Central Railways, which comprises Maharashtra, some parts of Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Chattisgarh. The delegates will also come from Southern Railways and South Western Railways.

He added that All India Railways Federation General Secretary Com Shivagopal Mishra, National Railways Mazdoor Union General Secretary  Com  Venu P Nair, South Western Railway Union General Secretary Com Anthony D’Cruz, Konkan Railway CMD Sanjay Gupta and Karwar Divisional Manager Bindu Muralidharan will address the gathering on the occasion.

Shet said the Seventh Pay Commission recommendations have many loopholes. The report which is released is based on whole sale price index. It should be based on the day-to-day normal consumer price, he said.

If the recommendations are based on whole sale index, the minimum wages would be Rs 26,000 as against the present Rs 18,000. The issue would be taken up at the meeting and the government would be given time up to February first week to revise the recommendations. If the government fails to do so, the union would hold indefinite massive protest with railways stopping the service, he said.

Shet added that the other problem confronting the railway workers is the new pension order.
