'Tour of Nilgiris' team in Madikeri

As part of the eighth season of Indian Terrain - Tour of Nilgiris organised  by Ride a Cycle Foundation, a team of cyclists reached Madikeri on Thursday evening.

The team consists of 109 competitors from various countries in the world, including India.

Speaking to media persons, Tour of Nilgiris Founder Shridhar Pabbisetty said the main aim of the tour is to encourage cycling and also to experience the nature’s bounty on the course of the journey. The cyclists will traverse a distance of 870 km, in Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu, he said.

Pabbisetty said that the tour was flagged off on Wednesday afternoon and it reached Mysuru in the afternoon. The cyclists entered Kodagu on Thursday afternoon and will progress towards Kerala on Friday. The team will pass through Bandipur in Karnataka, Madhumalai in Tamil Nadu and Wayanad Sanctuary in Kerala, he added.

About 500 cyclists from various countries had submitted their entries to take part in the event. Among them, 109 were selected after physical tests. The team also includes eight women cyclists.

A distance of 870 km will be covered in eight days, he said and added that the tour will culminate at Pollachi in Tamil Nadu.
