Hanging bridge near Abbey Falls in need of repair

Last Updated 17 December 2015, 18:25 IST

A hanging bridge constructed near the water falls to get a better view of the waterfalls is in a deplorable condition. A large number of tourists visit Abbey Falls situated amid coffee estates on the outskirts of the town every day.

The bridge was constructed using iron rods and wooden planks several years ago. With Kodagu receiving rain for six months in a year, the iron rods have rusted.

Looking at the condition of the bridge, the Tourism Department has warned the tourists walking on the bridge by erecting a board nearby. “There is no problem in viewing the water falls from another point,” a tender coconut vendor said.

However, the tourists feel that the Tourism Department should come forward to repair the hanging bridge and allow them to have a better view of the water falls.

When contacted, Tourism Department Assistant Director V Phaneesh told Deccan Herald, “Engineers have assessed the condition of the hanging bridge. A proposal to renovate the bridge has been sent to the government. Once the fund is sanctioned, the work will be taken up.”
