An unidentified person was mowed down by a speeding trailer truck near Dargha Mohalla near KR Puram railway station on Friday night.
According to police, the deceased is aged about 30 years and was crossing the road when the truck hit him. He suffered severe head injuries and passersby alerted the police.
He was taken to a nearby private hospital, where he was declared brought dead. The police suspect that he was a labourer and was drunk while the incident took place. Nothing was found on his person to identity him.
The truck driver, Vadivelu, was arrested and the vehicle was seized, said the police. A case has been registered at the KR Puram traffic police station.
