Law Minister T B Jayachandra and his predecessor S Suresh Kumar of the BJP on Tuesday locked horns over the controversy whether the motion to remove Upalokayukta Justice Subash Adi was admitted or not.

Both the leaders came up with documents to buttress their respective arguments. Though their documents were from the same source – Karnataka Legislative Assembly secretariat, they put forth different view points. While Suresh Kumar released to the media certified copies of Assembly proceedings that stated “the motion has been admitted,” Jayachandra came up with his own version of Assembly proceedings that had no mention of admission of the motion.

The government on Monday took a U-turn on the issue of removing Justice Adi by declaring that the motion has not been admitted. The government stand came in the wake of Avocate General Madhusudan R Naik’s recent submission in the Karnataka High Court that there was no implication in the motion restraining the Upalokayukta from discharging his duties. The motion was moved by Congress MLAs, but the BJP had been opposing it.

Suresh Kumar said the government move amount to breach of rules, while Jayachandra charged that the document released by the BJP leader were unauthorised.
