Proposal to set up pharmaceutical, plastic parks near Mudipu

Health and Family Welfare Minister U T Khader said a proposal will be sent to Commerce and Industries Department on setting up of pharmaceutical and plastic parks on 100 acres each near Mudipu on the outskirts of city with the assistance from Union government.

Speaking to media persons after holding a meeting with officials of different departments here, he said Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers H N Ananth Kumar has assured of all assistance to the State government towards setting up of a pharmaceutical park.

“If the pharmaceutical park comes up, two to three thousand persons will get jobs,” he said and added that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also had a discussion with Ananth Kumar in this regard. The State government will send a recommendation to the Union government in this regard, he said.

As MRPL has been producing materials required for producing plastic, Ananth Kumar has also assured of providing assistance towards the establishment of a plastic park. “Space will be made available for the park on the KIADB land,” Khader said.

He added that KIADB has about 280 acres land in Mudipu, which is excluding the land meant for constructing open prison.

A decision in this regard will be taken after holding discussions with senior officials in Bengaluru, he said.

As of now, the raw materials produced in MRPL are being used in Gujarat, Maharashtra and other states. Efforts will be made to utilise them in Mangaluru itself, the health minister said. Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim and Commerce and Industries Department Joint Director Gokuldas Nayak and others were present in the meeting.
