B'luru Book Capital of India, finds Flipkart study

Bengaluru has emerged as the country's ‘Book capital’ with highest number of book lovers in the City, according to a study by Flipkart.

‘Fliptrends,’ the year-ender report released by Flipkart, has found that the City has the highest number of book lovers in the country, followed by Delhi-NCR. Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai are among the other top five cities.

As for trends in the book buying, ‘Scion of Ikshvaku’ by Amish Tripathi was found to be the best-selling work of fiction for 2015.

The second best-selling book was Chetan Bhagat's ‘Half Girl Friend.’ Bhagat has also emerged the best-selling author.

Apart from him, books by A P J Abdul Kalam were favourites among the book lovers. The analysis was done between January and December 2015, based on a data of 50 million registered customers, an official release from Flipkart stated.

Salman Rushdie too has made it to the top selling list. The report found that the author’s ‘Two Years, Eight Months and Twenty Eight Nights’ was among the bestsellers this year.

Murder and Humour
In the non-fiction category, Twinkle Khanna's ‘Mrs Funnybones’ and Shilpa Shetty Kundra's ‘The Great Indian Diet’ have made it to the top of the list. A book based on the infamous murder of Aarushi Talwar, 'Aarushi' by Avirook Sen is in the third position.

The ‘Sword of Summer-Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard’ by Rick Riordan and the ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Old School’ written by Jeff Kinney, are the best selling children's books.
