Three people were killed and 40 sustained injuries when an overcrowded private bus crashed into a roadside railing and overturned in Devanahalli on Wednesday morning.
The bus was headed to Bengaluru from Chikkaballapur.

The deceased have been identified as Murali Kumar (25), a resident of Irigenahalli, Nagendra and Suresh Dinnur. The accident occurred at Kannamanganapalya near Bhuvanahalli in Devanahalli traffic police limits at around 8.30 am.

Police said the bus (KA 40 5832) driver lost control of the vehicle when a car in front of it suddenly swerved to the side. The axle gave way and the bus rammed an iron railing and overturned killing two persons on the spot.

Police said around six people, who sustained serious injuries, were being treated at various hospitals.

Vehicular movement on the busy road was disrupted for an hour till the bus was removed with the help of a crane.

Police said the BMTC had cancelled eight buses between Chikkaballapur and Devanahalli and this had led to overcrowding of private buses.
