Revellers raise a toast to New Year

Last Updated 31 December 2015, 19:36 IST

The New Year celebrations began much before the clock struck 12 on Thursday.

People across the Port City of Mangaluru and Manipal celebrated the New Year’s eve in their own style. Many clubs in Mangaluru were decorated, especially with bright lights, for the season and offered entertainment for the guests.

Celebrations everywhere
As the curtains downed on another year, Mangalureans turned up on glitzy MG Road, Jyothi, Kadri Hills with people excited to celebrate the arrival of 2016.

Fireworks lit up the sky and added to the festive mood. Restaurants, clubs and pubs offered special New Year bash and food to the enthusiastic people. Most of the revellers were youngsters who started pouring on the street as soon as the sun set.

Streets decked up
The visibly excited revellers were clicking selfies with their friends against the backdrop of the decked up streets.

“We were waiting for this day since the last few days,” said a reveller and hoped that the coming year would be as good as the previous year.

The police intensified patrolling and kept a strict vigil on Thursday night to avoid any untoward incidents. The food joints seemed to be packed with families and couples who preferred to dine out. Many hotels and restaurants arranged for orchestra, dance, music and fun games.

In Manipal too, many students were seen taking joyrides on motorbikes and cars waiting for the New Year.
