'Bao' to it

The one thing that’s got the town talking recently is the pocket-friendly food joint ‘Kylie’s — The Bao Shop’ on Church Street. Though many restaurants in the City offer some great variations of bao, the small joint is doing something so different that passersby and busy corporates stop by and take a bite of their moist and fluffy buns.

Bao is the new burger for food lovers and ‘Kylie’s’ is surely popularising it. While the menu is not elaborate, they have the basic vegetarian, chicken, fish and lamb options  covered. It also has only  two to three options for all the sections. What makes this place a rather attractive one are the prices — starting with Rs 100 and going upto just Rs 150. Though the quantity looks small (two baos each), it’s rightly portioned for one. The menu also has an interesting take to it as they give a twist to the  classic adaptation of popular dishes from around the world. ‘The Ratatouille Bao’ consists of all the vegetables as the original item is sandwiched betweenthe sweet steamed buns with a drizzle of sauce.

Served with spicy chipotle mayo, pickled cucumber and toasted sesame seeds, ‘The Teriyaki Chicken Bao’ also offers a flavourful bite. But their take on the favourite ‘tandoori’ chicken is something that one must relish. ‘The Tandoor Chicken Bao’, served with coriander, chilli and mint mayo, has stuffing packed between the baos which will start a party in your mouth. It’s a self-service joint that has an outdoor seating for about eight guests. The rest are expected to wait around the area or occupy the steps that lead to the shop. What is incredible here are the flavours that hold together the soft buns. The best part is that you can enjoy the bao without it sticking to your teeth or to the roof of your mouth. ‘Kylie’s — The Bao Shop’ is located on Church Street.
