UPA, NDA all same, says Anna Hazare

Anti-corruption activist Anna Hazare shot off a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday stating that there was no difference between the previous UPA government and the present NDA government.

The veteran Gandhian said nothing was being done to implement Lokpal and Lokayukta laws and bring back the black money stashed in foreign banks.

The septuagenarian leader also expressed his anguish over the lack of response from the prime minister to his letters when he said: “When P V  Narasimha Rao was the prime minister, he used to speak on phone sometimes. When Atal Bihari Vajpayee came to Pune he used to ask about me. Manmohan Singh against whom I wrote, used to reply to my letters. Senior RSS leader H V Seshadri visited my village Ralegaon Siddhi and wrote a book ‘Karmayogi Ka Gaon’.”

In the three-page letter, Hazare said: “You promised that if the BJP is voted to power, you would strive to make the country free of corruption….However, even now corruption has not decreased, no work can be done without paying bribes... Even inflation has not been curbed. In the matter of corruption, there is no difference between the UPA and NDA governments….When  you were entering the Parliament, you bowed down at the stairs and said that you would keep it pious….however, such picture is not being reflected.”

On the issue of black money, he said: “You had assured that you would bring in money hidden in foreign banks within 100 days and Rs 15 lakh would be deposited in every person’s account. This would end corruption. But today, not even Rs 15 has been deposited.”

Hazare said that the issue of farmer’s suicide still exists. “I always speak for the country, for the people of the country, their upliftment, the development of country. For the country, I have always spoken the truth….it appears that this angers and my letters go to the dust bin,” he added.
