Two minors drowned when they went to swim in the Dasarahalli lake under Amruthahalli police limits on Friday noon.

According to the police, the deceased have been identified as Rishikesh (14) and Rohith (15). Rishikesh was a resident of Kempapura and his neighbour Rohith was a native of Kalaburagi.

Rishikesh’s parents were into the chemical business, while Rohith's parents were engaged in the catering business.

On Friday, around 2 pm, Rishikesh, a class nine student of Triveni High School, along with Rohith, a tenth standard student of Priyadarshini school,  went to the Dasarahalli lake.
They were accompanied by Rishikesh’s brother Abhishek and cousin Raghavendra. They informed their parents and relatives that they would be going to the temple and instead went to the lake, said the police.

Rishikesh and Rohith, who cannot swim, ventured into the lake, while Abhishek and Raghavendra stood on the bund of the lake.

The duo who could not stay afloat, drowned. Seeing this, Abhishek and Raghavendra, who were in a state of shock, went home and informed their parents about the incident, added the police.

The parents and relatives rushed to the spot and informed the police. The Fire and Emergency service, along with the police, launched a rescue operation and fished out the bodies, mentioned the police.

A senior police officer said, “The entire lake is fenced and there are a couple of gates to enter the lake, which are locked. The boys have sneaked in through a small gap. The children informed their parents that they would go to a nearby temple, but went for a swim in the lake instead and met a watery grave.”

A case has been registered in the Amruthahalli police station and investigation is on, the officer added.
