Virat Kohli has emerged as the highest paid player in the Indian Premier League, leaving behind India’s limited-overs skipper M S Dhoni behind by some distance.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper is being paid Rs 15 crore per year in actual salary while the purse deducted from his franchise is Rs 12.5 crore. Dhoni, on the other hand, is paid Rs 12.5 crore, the same amount he was bought for during players-draft by new franchise Team Pune.

While Kohli is paid Rs 2.5 crore over and above the amount he was retained for, South Africa batsman David Miller gets less than half the money he was retained for by Kings XI Punjab. While the sum deducted from Kings XI kitty to keep left-hander is Rs 12.5 crore, he is shown to be paid Rs 5 crore, according to the list put out by the BCCI on its official website.

The move to disclose players' salaries comes close on the heels of BCCI's stated policy to keep the affairs of the board transparent. It may be noted that the justice RM Lodha panel's recommendations to reform the functioning of the BCCI will be submitted to the Supreme Court on January 4.

Among the gainers are Chris Gayle (RCB), Harbhajan Singh and Ambati Rayudu (both MI).
