The City Traffic police registered the highest number of cases against drunk-driving in 2015.

According to the police, an intense drive carried out against drunk driving in 2015 recorded 62,576 cases, in 2014, as many as 55,143 cases were registered and in 2013, at least 61,000 cases were registered.

M A Saleem, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), said, “The year 2015 saw the highest number of cases registered for drunk driving, and in December alone, at least 9,000 cases were booked. Stringent action will be initiated against the offenders. Also, we are recommending suspension of the driving licence of the first-time offenders, and repeated offenders will be sent jail.”

“The public are aware of the consequences if they are caught driving drunk. But we will conduct more such drives to minimise such cases,” he added.
