State govt is scared of land grabbers, says Ramaswamy

Bhoo Kabalike Virodhi Horata Samithi leader A T Ramaswamy said the State government has failed to initiate action against those who have grabbed over hundred acres of government land by creating false documents.

He told reporters here on Tuesday that the government should act against such people instead of reclaiming two to three acre land encroached by the people for livelihood.

He said encroachment of land and grabbing of land are two different terminologies. “The poor have encroached one or two acres land for livelihood. There are people who have grabbed hundreds of acres of government land by creating false documents for money. The government should initiate action against such land grabbers. The Karnataka Land Grabbing (Prohibition) Act, 2007 has made a provision for the constitution of special courts to try cases of encroachment of government land. But special courts have not been constituted so far. The State government is scared of land grabbers,” he charged.

He said, “Money power ruled in the recently-concluded Legislative Council election. The State Election Commission has failed to act against illegalities committed during the election. The Election Commission and the Lokayukta have failed to curb corruption and illegalities.”

“The Upper House was a thinkers’ gallery in the past. However, now it has turned into a house for the rich. Those who give money are given tickets for the MLC election. If this is the case, then why should one hold the election?” Ramaswamy questioned.
