Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is said to be inclined on appointing former chairman of State Human Rights Commission justice S R Nayak as the Lokayukta.

The Chief Minister's Office (CMO) is likely to send the file recommending the name of either Justice Nayak or retired judge of Supreme Court Justice Vikramajit Sen for appointment to the post, to Governor Vajubhai Vala on Wednesday. The CMO could not send the file to Raj Bhavan on Tuesday as the chief minister was away on a tour.

Siddaramaiah on Monday held a meeting with acting chief justice of Karnataka High Court Justice S K Mukherjee, Assembly Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa, Chairman of the Legislative Council D H Shankaramurthy, leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Jagadish Shettar and his counterpart in the Council K S Eshwarappa and elicited their views on appointing the new Lokayukta.

Though a majority of those who attended the meeting suggested the name of Justice Sen for the post, the Chief Minister is said to be in favour of Justice Nayak. Kagodu also suggested Justice Nayak’s name. However, it is left to the discretion of the chief minister to recommend any of them.
