With an aim to increase its market share in the small commercial vehicles segment, homegrown auto major Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) has launched its new offering in the segment, Imperio priced at Rs 6.25 lakh (ex-showroom Thane, for single cabin BS3 variant).

“In keeping with our endeavour of offering first-of-a-kind world class products, we have launched the Imperio which lays a strong foundation for an entirely new generation of pickups. Being a market leader in the pickup segment, we identified need gaps to further consolidate our presence in the SCV segment. We hope to increase our market share in the segment through this launch,” M&M President and Chief Executive (Automotive) Pravin Shah said.

“We have invested Rs 70 crore for developing the Ingenio at Chakan. Some 200 engineers worked over last two years for the product. The plant can produce 20,000 units annually, and we have the flexibility to mop up and meet the market requirement if required,” Shah added.

He also said that the company has decided to stop sales of the Genio model in the Indian market. “We have decided to stop sales of Genio and come up with a product that meets the new customer demands,” Shah said, adding that the company will continue to export the model.

The Imperio will be available in four variants, two single-cabin options (SC, SC-VX) and two double-cabin options (DC, DC-VX), and in three metallic colours of Lava Red, Verve Blue and Arctic White.
