Unscientific iron grills claim lives of cattle in HD Kote

The sharp-edged iron grill compound around Kabini Reservoir Division office in Beechanahalli of the taluk has claimed the lives of two cattle recently.

The cattle and other livestock that enter the compound in search of fresh grass come out only in the evenings. If the compound gates are closed, they stay there till morning or try to cross over the compound made of iron grills. Since, the top edges of these grills are sharp, they pierce the bodies of the livestock, when the latter tries cross them. The animals are deeply injured and some even lose their lives.

One such cow that entered the compound in search of food became the victim recently. In its struggle to free from the grill, its injury deepened. The efforts of a shopkeeper to shift it to a veterinary hospital proved futile, as the animal died en route the hospital.

Another bullock met with a similar end, as the grills had pierced its stomach and was severely injured.

The scene was gory as the animal’s inner parts were exposed. It was shifted to a veterinary hospital in Sargur, where it succumbed.

So, the residents insist that the office staff check the office premise before closing the gates in the evening to prevent such incidents in future.
