An unidentified person posing as a bank employee withdrew Rs 90,000 in cash from the bank account of actor and director Prakash Belawadi, after collecting the pin number of his ATM card from his wife on Friday.

According to the police, while Belawadi was busy in his work at his house, an unknown person, claiming to be a bank employee, called on his mobile phone. The call was answered by Belawadi’s wife.

The person told her that they required the ATM pin number for a banking process.
As she gave the ATM pin number, a One Time Password (OTP) was sent to the mobile phone. The caller asked for the OTP and she gave it away.

Belawadi initially thought that his wife was doing online shopping using his credit card. But when he heard her give away the OTP, he realised that something was fishy.

The actor took the phone from his wife and tried to talk to the person, but the caller had disconnected the call. Within a few minutes, Belawadi got an SMS on his mobile phone stating that Rs 90,000 was withdrawn from his account.

He approached the Jayanagar police and registered a complaint.
