Woman tortures mother-in-law, caught on CCTV

 The “saas-bahu” bickering is not uncommon in Indian homes but in Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnore district, about 450 km from here, a “bahu” (daughter-in-law) did something that would shock even the die hard supporters of the “bahus”.

The “bahu”, identified as Sangeeta Jain, was caught brutally torturing her 70-year old “saas” (mother-in-law) on a video tape. Sangeeta could be seen hitting her old mother-in-law Rajrani Jain with stone, trying to drag her by her hair and also trying to strangulate her. Sangeeta had no idea that her deeds were being captured on the CCTV camera installed inside the room by her husband Sandeep.  Sangeeta was arrested by the police on Tuesday after Sandeep lodged a report, according to police sources. She will be produced before the district court on Wednesday.

The police said that Sangeeta had been married with Sandeep around four years back.

“The couple was having problems and they often had heated exchanges over trivial matter,” said a district police official. Sangeeta had also filed a petition in the court accusing her husband and mother-in-law of harassing her and demanding dowry from her parents though Sandeep vehemently denied the charges. A divorce case was also pending in the court.
