H Anjaneya, Minister for Social Welfare, has said that the government will issue a circular to appoint sanctioned ‘D’ Group employees to the Department of Backward Class Welfare and Social Welfare by a district-level committee.

“The outsourced staff in the Department have failed to discharge their duties effectively, which has been affecting the maintenance of hostels of the Department,” said the minister, who chaired a meeting of taluk-level officials and hostel wardens in the City on Monday.

Anjaneya said that ‘D’ Group employees will be appointed at district-level and measures will be taken to fill the vacancies of hostel supervisors through the Karnataka Public Service Commission.

Santhosh Kumar, the district officer of the Backward Class Welfare Department, informed at the meeting that while the sanctioned number of posts to Dakshina Kannada district is 470, the posts filled are merely 129. As many as 341 posts in the district are lying vacant.
In response, Minister Anjaneya said that the approval of the government has been taken to fill the vacancies.

Listen to woes

He also directed the officials to listen to the woes of the students residing in hostels. “The students should be guided to achieve success. The hostels should maintain hygiene and quality food should be provided to the children. The hostel supervisors should also ensure that nutritious food is supplied to the children in the hostels,” said Anjaneya.

Morarji Desai schools

“The government has decided to open Morarji Desai Residential Schools in all hobli headquarters. A proposal to start the schools in hoblis that do not have residential schools should be submitted to the government. Sites spanning across at least 10 acres should be earmarked for the construction of the schools in the hobli centres.

“A sum of Rs 15 crore will be released for each school, to provide basic facilities,” explained the minister.

Zilla Panchayat chief executive officer P I Sreevidya appealed to the minister to provide computers and library facilities to the Morarji Desai Residential Schools in the district.

The Social Welfare minister said that a list of the required basic facilities to the D Devaraj Urs Backward Classes post-matric and pre-matric hostels should be submitted before the government. The officials should ensure that the hostels do not lack basic facilities, he directed.
