KSRTC logs in 25k seats online per day

Last Updated 19 January 2016, 20:53 IST
Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation’s seat booking on the web has hit a new high with number of seats booked per day crossing 25,000.

The revenue from the web booking is now around 20 per cent of the total traffic revenue. As many as 2,000 seats are being booked per day through mobile application.

“The web system has improved matters for KSRTC as a higher number of users are able to log in to the KSRTC website for seat booking than earlier. Earlier, the system was supporting only 500 numbers of concurrent users and now it has been upgraded to support 3,000 concurrent users and scalable up to 5,000 concurrent users on demand basis,” said Rajender Kumar Kataria, Managing Director of KSRTC. The web-based booking enables ticket distribution at multiple places and the number of users would be high because of concurrent logins.

Along with web booking, universal netbanking has been made available to passengers by KSRTC now. Previously, the facility was available through SBI online. This was netbanking for the passengers who had internet banking facility only with SBI. Now, to provide more options in payment mode of netbanking, around 50 banks have been enabled with online booking facility. All state banks which have netbanking facility have also been enabled for booking.

“A payment gateway has also been presently offered through ICICI Bank for all credit cards issued with VISA and MasterCard logos. There is also a provision for availing the e-ticket for the account holders of SBI through direct debit to the account. This feature is the first of its kind amongst the state transport undertakings in India. Presently, more than 35 lakh users are registered with KSRTC,” the senior official said.

Mobile booking is integrated with the Any Where Any Time Advanced Reservation (AWATAR) system that KSRTC runs. Through this system, one can book tickets using a mobile. But a GPRS system in the mobile is a must. The passenger will get a confirmation in the form of an SMS about the seat booking. The SMS will also contain details like trip code, date of journey, PNR number, seat number, journey from place to place and departure time.
