Undertrial gives two cops the slip, escapes

Last Updated 23 January 2016, 18:21 IST

A 22-year-old undertrial gave two police constables a slip while they were accompanying him at the Kempegowda bus stand on Friday evening.

According to police, Kiran, the undertrial, was imprisoned in connection with a murder in Adugodi in 2015. A theft case was also registered against him in Tiptur.

Journey to Tiptur

On Friday morning, two constables went to Parappana Agrahara Central Prison, from where they took him to Tiptur, where he was produced before a local court.

After the hearing at Tiptur, they returned to Bengaluru in a KSRTC bus and alighted at Kempegowda bus stand. While they were about to board a BMTC bus to return to Parappana Agrahara Central Prison, Kiran, who was handcuffed, pushed them and escaped.

“When Kiran pushed the constable, he fell down and let go of the handcuff. Kiran immediately escaped from the spot. Both the constables went after him but Kiran disappeared into the crowd.

Second time

This is not the first time Kiran has given the police a slip. In 2014, while the Arsikere police were taking him to a local court, he diverted their attention and escaped but was arrested after a couple of days,” said a senior police officer.

A case has been registered in Upparpet police station and a manhunt has been launched to nab him.
