A 'sizzling' farewell for prisoners in dargah jail

Last Updated 27 January 2016, 19:11 IST

The move by the authorities of the dargah jail in the city to have two young women perform to ‘item songs’ before releasing 38 prisoners on Tuesday  has come under severe criticism.

The dance was organised soon after district incharge minister M B Patil and other dignitaries presented release certificates to the convicts and left the place.

The convicts had performed cultural activities when the dignitaries were around.

Video clippings of the women’s performance show that a few people showered currency notes on them.

S N Siddaramappa told Deccan Herald that the jail did not come under his jurisdiction and that DGP (prisons) H N Satyanarayana Rao was seized of the matter.

Rao is slated to visit the jail on Thursday to probe the incident.

P S Ambekar, the incharge superintendent of the dargah jail, was not available for comment.
