The Central Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths arrested a 22-year-old youth for selling activated SIM cards without taking any documents from customers.

According to police, the accused Mohan is a resident of Hongasandra. He owned a mobile phone repair shop and was also selling SIM cards. Based on the information, the CCB officials raided his shop and arrested him. They have seized SIM cards, photographs of customers and other documents.

He was selling activated SIM cards to customers without collecting any documents, charging Rs 500 per card. He used to collect the photo identity proof of a few customers and hand them over SIM cards. Later, he used to submit the same identity proofs, collected earlier from the customers, to get more SIM cards and he would wait till they get activated.

Later, Mohan used to sell them for higher prices to people without taking any documents from them. He was carrying out the racket from the past six months, the police said.

Deactivation of cards

A senior police officer said, “It is a grievous offence as anyone paying him extra money could get a SIM card without submitting any kind of proof. We are gathering the details of SIM cards which he has sold without taking the identity proofs and will contact the service provider to cancel the activation of those SIM cards.”

A case has been registered in Madiwala police station and further investigation is on.
