Last Updated 31 January 2016, 19:43 IST

Justice (retd) Sanjay Mishra, who was appointed as the new Lokayukta of Uttar Pradesh by the Supreme Court on Thursday, was administered oath of office and secrecy on Sunday.

Mishra was administered the oath by the state Governor Ram Naik at Rajbhavan here in the presence of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly Swami Prasad Maurya.

Mishra is the seventh Lokayukta of Uttar Pradesh. The apex court had earlier appointed justice (retd) Virendra Singh as the new Lokayukta of the state but his swearing-in was stayed after a PIL was filed before it claimed that Singh’s name was not on the list of the probables and the court had been misled by the Uttar Pradesh government.
