A couple was crushed to death by a tipper truck at Bogadi Outer Ring Road (ORR), here, on Monday. The deceased have been identified as Kodandaramu, 47, and his wife Hemavathi, 40, of Kottegala in HD Kote taluk. The couple was on their way to a relative’s house in Srirampura in the city, from their village, on their two-wheeler when the accident occurred at around 9.30 am at Bogadi Traffic Signal on the ORR. When the bike reached the traffic signal, the tipper truck bound for Dattagalli from Hinkal ran over them after hitting the bike.

It is suspected that signal jump by both the vehicles caused the mishap. According to a few people, who were on the spot at the time of mishap, Kodandaramu, who was coming from the Gadduge Road, jumped the signal and rushed to the road leading to Dattagalli. Simultaneously, the driver of the tipper truck, also headed to Dattagalli, too jumped the signal and moved his vehicle ultimately hitting the bike, they added.

The couple died on the spot as the truck ran over them. Kodandaramu sustained severe wounds on abdomen and his wife sustained injuries on head. The driver of the tipper fled the spot. The couple is survived by two daughters and a son. Kuvempunagar Traffic Police have registered a case.

Protest
A snap stir was staged following the accident and agitators blocked the ORR for more than an hour. Local residents, along with the relatives of the deceased, staged a protest against the police. The agitators said as there were no speed-breakers, vehicles travel at high speed. In the past few days, several accidents have been reported in the area. In spite of the repeated requests, the police have not bothered to instal speed-breakers, they alleged.
