Banajalaya, located at a distance of six km from Sagara on Avinahalli Road, is a repository of herbs, plant fossils and other unique elements of nature.

The significant collection of seeds, leaves and roots attracts students and researchers alike to this place. This museum of sorts is the outcome of painstaking efforts of naturalist Ramesh and his family.

They have been nurturing this passion for the last 32 years. The family’s involvement can be felt at the entrance of the house, where a good variety of flora from the surrounding forests has been displayed.

In fact, the entire house has been converted into a storehouse of biodiversity. The collection includes more than 200 types of seeds. Each variety is hung on the wall in plastic covers with details about the seed displayed on it. The family has given an artistic touch to the collection and made attractive designs using pods, seeds and flowers collected from the forest.

Ramesh is also a practitioner of traditional medicine and people from near and far approach him seeking advice. Along with medicine, he also shares knowledge about medicinal plants and stresses on the need for conservation.

Ramesh, with the support of his family and friends, has been conducting summer camps and other awareness activities for children and elders regularly. For details, contact Ramesh on 9341278212.
