Addressing a felicitation programme organised to mark the 50 years of legal practice and 75th birthday of senior Advocate M Seetharama Shetty by his juniors at the TMA Pai Convention Centre here on Sunday, Moily said, “the nation needs a large pool of talented advocates very badly.” There is a requirement of 15,000 judges including 280 High Court judges in the nation. The dearth of shortage of talented advocates is such that it has become a very difficult job to find best judges to fill the posts in the nation, he added.

“There is a large pool of talented IT professionals in India, especially in Karnataka. It is possible to produce talented advocates and make law profession competitive through the Second Generation of Legal Education Reforms. A national consensus will be held in this regard in March,” Moily said. Legal profession in India need to be competitive and our country should capture the legal world. Curriculum of legal education needs to be restructured and more law schools should be opened, he added. Moily felicitated Advocate M Seetharama Shetty while former Karnataka High Court Judge Justice B N Mallikarjuna presided. Senior Advocate B V Acharya and IGP (Western Range) Gopal B Hosur were the guests.
