Farmers, who were desilting and cleaning Dwara- samudra lake here, stumbled upon a 3.5-ft tall idol on Friday.

The deity is yet to be identified. As soon as the idol was unearthed, locals gathered in large numbers to have a glimpse of it and also offered prayers to it.

Expecting good rains
Farmers, who believe that the unearthing of the idol is a good omen, said that it indicated that there would be good rains this year and the lake would be filled to the brim. The workers involved in cleaning the lake took extra care so that the statue was
retrieved without any damage.

Raitha Sangha hobli president M V Channegowda said, the Archaeology Survey of India should take possession of the idol and conserve it.

An employee of Department of Archaeology and Museums said, Archaeologist P Aravazi is out of town on official duty and the next course of action will be decided once he returned. “However, it would be brought to the notice of higher officials,” he added.
