Probe nepotism charges against Gujarat CM, says Congress
The Congress on Friday demanded an independent probe by a Special Investigation Team into reports of favouritism in land allotment to a company run by business associates of Anar Patel, the daughter of Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel.

The Congress demanded immediate resignation of Patel and wanted Prime Minister Narendra Modi to come clean on the matter.

“Under Modi’s watch when he was Gujarat chief minister, nepotism flourished and public land was plundered to promote commercial and business,” Congress’ senior spokesman Anand Sharma said.

Reports had it that a company linked to Anar Patel was allotted 250 acres of land near the Gir Lion Sanctuary at an official rate of Rs 15 per square metre. The allocation was made for building a resort near the sanctuary.

“Was the prime minister aware of the extent of loss to the state exchequer? Was Narendra Modi aware of clear conflict of interest of the then Revenue Minister Anandiben Patel while allocating the said land,” Sharma asked.

The Congress leader claimed that the allotment was illegal as Supreme Court directions and laws enacted by the state government do not permit commercial activity within the proximity of eco-sensitive zone.
