Modi for timely completion of projects

Prime minister Narendra Modi on Sunday stressed on the need for the timely implementation of the mega projects so that the country and the people could get the maximum benefit out of them.

“Mega projects in our country face all kinds of roadblocks at every stage. In the process, they not only get costlier, but also fail to provide timely benefit to the people. We have to bring in a new culture in our system for timely launching as well as completion of new projects. We are working on that”, Modi said while dedicating to the nation the state run Indian Oil Corporation (IOC)’s new refinery at Paradip in coastal Jagatsinghpur district.

The foundation stone for the mega project was laid by the then prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee more than a decade back. The refinery, one of the biggest in the country, has been set up at a cost of about Rs 35,000 crore.

The prime minister also took a dig at the Congress in this context. “Now a days whenever I am going to inaugurate a new project, the Congress leaders immediately claim that the project was launched during their time. They should realize that I do not enjoy inaugurating the delayed projects. It always comes to my mind that the projects could have benefited the people more if they were implemented timely”, he said.

Modi further maintained that his government was trying to reduce the country’s dependence on import oil and generate more oil within the country through indigenously developed methods. “The country must reduce it dependence on import oil at least by ten percent by the year 2022 when the nation will be celebrating the 75th year of independence”, he said.

The prime minister further said that a project like the Paradip refinery would provide job opportunities to lakh of youths but efforts should be there among the young people to create jobs on their own. “We have to have an environment in which youths get opportunities to create jobs for themselves”, he said.
