People's problems- Need a hand? Write to us

Letters of grievances are pouring in and we are doing our best to accommodate as many as possible. Readers may write in to highlight civic problems affecting their locality and we will help address them in an interactive and effective manner.

Grievances and issues related to public utility agencies such as Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) and Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (Bescom) would be highlighted in the weekly column.

The writeups, which could be accompanied by photographs highlighting the problems, will be published on Mondays.

Frequent disruptions in power supply

Power disruption has become a regular feature in Vidyaranyapura, specially during the evening hours between 7 pm and 9 pm. Complaints with the authorities concerned have received a lukewarm response. This has given rise to several chain-snatching incidents in the locality. The residents have also been seeking a zebra crossing and speedbreakers in front of the Syndicate Bank and the Post Office Road. Hope the authorities take action at the earliest.

Drain water overflows on road
For the past 15 days, drainage water from two manholes located near my house is flowing onto the road.Several complaints have been filed with the BWSSB, both online and over the telephone, but it has failed to yield any result. Corporator from our area had also promised of necessary action, but nothing has materialised so far. The drainage water is emanating foul smell and the spot has become a breeding place for the mosquitoes. The authorities concerned should fix the problem at the earliest.

Bus connectivity for residents
It would be much appreciated if the BMTC authorities extend route No 90 till Mathikere via Tollgate as it would benefit commuters from Shettihalli, Lakshmipura, Ramachandrapura, Singapura and Kuvempunagar.

It would be easy for them to alight at the Tollgate or Mathikere and catch the connecting buses to reach their destinations. Students from Nirmala Rani School, MES Kishora Kendra, MES College, change two or three buses to reach their destinations. The authorities concerned should look into the matter.

Dug-up road posing problems to passersby
The sixth cross in Jayanagar first block was dug up to provide new BWSSB connections after a new pipeline was laid. The work is still under progress. However, the dug-up street is causing inconvenience to the pedestrians and motorists who find it difficult to travel on the road. Citizens hope that the BWSSB would complete the work and the road is restored to its original self.

Streetlights not working
The streetlights on St Mary’s Church Road, Gangamma Circle in Jalahalli are switched off in the wee hours. The early morning walkers find it tough to walk down the road. The Bescom authorities should switch off the streetlights only at dawn.

Make road one-way
It was decided at the public meeting with Hanumanthnagar Corporator Kempegowda and MLA Ravi Subramaya that the Ramanjenaya Road should be made oneway. It is almost two months since the decision was taken and no action has been taken so far. The authorities concerned should loo-k into the matter and address the problem at the earliest.

Divert funds to civic works
The stormwater drain at the Visvesvaraya Layout 6th block is being reconstructed. The residents are of the opinion that the present system was in a good condition. Instead of wasting the money on reconstructing the stormwater drainage, the funds should be diverted to other civic works.

The layout requires identification of site numbers, main roads, crossroads, asphaltation of the four-lane roads, etc. The authorities of the BBMP should consider the request and undertake the pending works.

No stock of LED bulbs
I visited the Bescom office on Lazar Road on February 4 to collect LED bulbs. But I was shocked to know that the stock of bulbs had exhausted and the staff at the kiosk informed that the fresh stock would arrive after an hour. Bescom should plan a little better to ensure that the citizens are not put to inconvenience.

Area around waste centre unclean
This refers to my letter published in the January 18th edition of Deccan Herald regarding the Dry Waste Collection Centre (DWCC), located adjacent to the Children’s Park at 4th Main, AECS Layout, Sanjay Nagar.

I regret to inform that the BBMP has not taken any steps to keep the area clean. The trash is mounting by the day. The gate to the DWCC is locked and the pourakarmikas are unable to access the area for cleaning.

I would again request the BBMP to get the area cleaned and ensure that the pourakarmikas are able to access the premises regularly. The area is turning into a health hazard for the children visiting the park.
