Call it the height of sycophancy or genuine affection from grateful people, the smiling picture of Jayalalitha seems to be showing up in unexpected places.
After dominating cutouts and wall posters –even relief materials during recent floods- Amma’s images have become the badge of honour for the newly weds, as a group of them were seen wearing it in their ceremonial headbands at a mass wedding.
Not so surprisingly, the latest instance of Amma mania had all the telltale signs of sycophancy, as the mass wedding was organised by the Tamil Nadu Assembly Deputy Speaker and senior AIADMK leader Pollachi V Jayaraman at Udumelpet in Tiruppur district, where more than sixty couples were initiated into wedlock.
