Hyd doctor's death: Wife accuses partners of murder

Uncertainty surrounds the death of Dr Shashi Kumar, who shot himself at a farmhouse after firing at a fellow doctor, with his wife accusing his partners in a hospital venture of killing him.

Dr Shashi Kumar, 40, shot himself with his own revolver at a farmhouse of Mrs Chandrakala at Nakkalapalli in Moinabad mandal of Ranga Reddy district at midnight on Monday.

Police said Dr Shashi Kumar and his partners in the newly formed Laurel Hospital Dr Uday and Dr Saikumar decided to meet at a restaurant Monday evening to sort out differences that crept up in managing the hospital.

Shashi Kumar, a general physician and surgeon, ran away after the incident, while Dr Saikumar claimed that he hid himself in a nearby apartment. A few hours later, Shashi Kumar called his wife Kanthi on her mobile to say sorry before shooting himself.

In his suicide note, Shashi accused his partners of cheating him and Dr Saikumar of shooting Dr Uday dead with his revolver. “Unfortunately, there was no television in the farmhouse. Otherwise, Dr Shashi would have known that Dr Udai survived the firing,” said an investigating officer.

The three doctors set up the hospital at Madapur area last month with a few NRIs. It is said that Dr Shashi invested Rs 75 lakh in the venture and lent a further Rs 25 lakh to Dr Uday.

The deceased doctor’s wife Kanthi told police that Dr Shashi went into depression after his partners took his money and kicked him out of the hospital administration.
