JNU protesters worse than prostitutes, says Haryana BJP leader

Haryana BJP leader Jawahar Yadav, who until recently was the officer on special duty to Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, stoked a controversy on Saturday when he termed the women protesting at the JNU campus “prostitutes”.

In his first tweet on Saturday, Yadav had said prostitutes were better since they were at least not selling the nation. Yadav, later withdrew his tweet issuing a clarification while claiming that his comments had been wrongly interpreted.

In another tweet, Yadav said, “What I had said in my previous tweet was that those sisters and daughters who are forced to opt for prostitution are better than those girls at JNU who were raising anti-national, ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ and ‘freedom for Kashmir’ (slogans) and vowing to fight till India’s destruction. Those prostitutes and sex worker sisters are better as they sell their bodies under compulsion but do not sell their nation.”

Yadav is presently the chairman of Haryana Housing Board and is considered close to the chief minister. “I withdraw my statement. I did not intend to hurt anybody’s sentiments,” he tweeted.  The earlier tweet was not available later on his Twitter account.
