Four young men on a visit to Ullal Darga drowned in the Arabian Sea at Someshwara Beach, less than 20 km from Mangaluru city, on Sunday, police said. They were part of a group of six men. Two friends survived as they didn’t risk entering the water.

Imran Pasha, 19, son of Iqbal Pasha, Mohammed Siyab, 19, son of Khalander, Mohammed Haneef, 20, son of Mohammed Shabeer, and Sayyed Khaleel, 19, son of Mohammed Firoz, are the deceased. Khaleel was the first to venture into the sea but was soon swept away by a huge wave. As he screamed for help, the three friends jumped into water one by one. Two others, Saqlain Sahil and Sadiq Pasha, who were sitting on a rock on the beach, threw a net at them in a bid to save them. But the effort didn’t fructify.

The men, all from Mirza Mohalla on Hunasikere Road in Hassan, had travelled to the beach on motorcycles. They planned to visit Ullal Dargah after taking bath in the sea. They reached the beach at 1.30 pm. A search is on to fish out the bodies. Mangaluru Police Commissioner M Chandra Sekhar and ACP Kalyan Shetty visited the spot.
