Minor girl 'in search of job' rescued from stranger

A 17-year-old girl from Mysuru, who claimed to have come to the City in search of a job, was rescued by the KSRTC divisional security staff after spotting her with a stranger at the Mysuru Road Satellite bus stand on Tuesday evening.

Based on the information provided by a few passengers, the security officers at the bus stand traced the man Narayanappa, aged about 60, taking the minor girl along with him.

When they confronted him, he claimed he was an LIC agent and a marriage broker and that he had met the girl in the bus during his journey to Bengaluru from Mysuru.

“He said he wanted to help the girl after listening to her plight and was taking her to find a job for her,” said a security officer.

When a few officials questioned Anjali (name changed), she said she had secured 79 per cent marks in SSLC and could not pursue her education due to financial problem. She claimed her parents had died in a road accident a few years ago and that she was living with her grandmother.

A few months ago, her grandmother fell ill and they did not have enough money for her treatment. So, Anjali decided to work and take care of her grandmother.

She said that after her friends suggested to her to go Bengaluru, where plenty of job opportunities are available, she decided to come to the City, said the officer. With just Rs 200 in her possession, she boarded a bus to the City.

On the way, Narayanappa picked up a conversation with her and promised her a job. Narayanappa, however, fled the spot while the officials were questioning Anjali.

“Narayanappa seems to be a suspicious character. A few passengers who overheard his conversation with Anjali in the bus tipped us off. The girl will be sent to Bosco Mane and we are trying to locate her house in Mysuru. We will also inform the police about the incident. Only after Narayanappa is nabbed, we will be able to know what he was up to,” said the officer.
