'Keep it simple and sexy'

Chic accessories

A self confessed travel junkie, TV show host and presenter Archana Vijaya catapulted to limelight when she won the supermodel hunt show ‘Get Gorgeous Season 1’ in 2004. Her modelling career kicked off from here and then she went on hosting travel shows like ‘Freedom Express 1 and 2’, where she travelled through India by train.

The 33-year-old admits she loves to travel and sitting and relaxing is not in her nature. She recently added another jewel to her multifaceted professional journey by launching her label KISS. She spoke with Metrolife about her life and creative pursuits.

Why KISS: I have always loved accessories. I don’t like spending much on clothes because I get bored of them, but I have a fetish for shoes and bags. This label is an extension of my personal style statement. I have always believed in keeping it simple and sexy and that is from where KISS comes from. I also felt that in the market there was a gap when it came to accessories. Either you have mass products or high-end accessories, so I am positioning my label somewhere in between.

On entrepreneurial journey: I have always loved challenges and I am learning something new every day in this new role. It is like learning a new craft. Being a business woman is difficult but being into online space is extremely challenging because you have to learn technical things and right now I am learning many new things.

On personal style statement: For me fit is the most important thing when it comes to clothes. I prefer classical cuts and don’t like to wear vulgar clothes.

On fitness: I am rushing against time constantly. There are so many things to do and at the same time I am travelling for professional commitments. I live out of a suitcase always and am a self-proclaimed workaholic. So I do take out time to work out three-four times a week to stay healthy and fit. It is important not to lose my mind and stay optimistic. I think I find funny things in worst situations and that helps me to look at things in a positive manner.

On cheat food: I eat extremely healthy and don’t like junk or fried food. But I love biryani, so I guess that is the only cheat food in my diet. But I like to take all natural things to stay healthy. I drink vegetable juice every day, take vitamin supplements and eat boiled and grilled food.

On favourite holiday destination: That is a difficult one to choose. But I like Gulmarg in Kashmir and feel it is better than Switzerland. I also have a soft corner for Paris because of its historical relevance. I love history and that city is seeped into it.
