Hoteliers to protest hike in licence fee

Members of Bruhat Bangalore Hotels Association (BBHA) will stage a demonstration in the City on Saturday to draw the attention of the government to their problems.

Addressing a press conference on Friday, BBHA president Chandrashekhar Hebbar said the protest would be peaceful and highlight problems such as the exorbitant increase in the licence fee.

The number of eateries on footpaths has increased and they serve unhygienic food. They also resort to illegal water and gas connection.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) health officials should take note of this.

Since such hotels have been thriving, licensed hotels are facing many problems, he said.

Hebbar said the BBMP was collecting building cess from hotels and imposing fines on them for not managing garbage.

‘Work in coordination’The BBMP should be doing this work in co-ordination with hotels to resolve the garbage crisis.

Hotels are also penalised for using plastic below and above 40 microns, while no action is taken against plastic manufacturers.

The Palike should give hotels some time to produce the required documents before they are slapped with fines.

The protest is aimed at getting the  problems redressed, Hebbar said.
